My younger brother Tom came to visit me and Miranda in Japan for a few weeks! We had a great time with him, and I think Tom had a great time too. He's got his own stories, and I don't want to spoil them all. But I do want to share a few exciting moments.
Nick here, with another update. It's been a while. Miranda and I were really busy over spring break (hanging out with Tom), but we have also been pretty busy since then. We have jumped back into our classes, and now I'm finally getting back into a rhythm.
Tom stayed in a hotel near the Hirakata train station. It was super easy to meet up with him and do stuff!

Miranda and I got melon sodas while we waited for Tom to get settled into his hotel. Ice cream and green sugar water? Sounds delicious to me.
A little aside from Miranda, it was amazing! Our friend Yuna-san has totally sold me on melon soda. It's her favorite soda. :)

I was sick for the first few days of spring break. Tom spent the time writing and exploring on his own, and Miranda got a chance to catch up on some homework. (And I cobbled together some killer chicken soup for myself... I mean Nick. --Miranda) I tested negative for Covid-19 and recovered after a few days - just in time too. We only had one sunny day during spring break, and we spent it at Himeji Castle, one of the oldest castles in Japan. It was really crowded, so we didn't go inside the actual castle, but we sat outside, ate ice cream, and talked about the world.

There was a great hole-in-the-wall ramen shop near the castle that we got lunch at. Note from Miranda: Nick and I spent most of the time debating whether or not to pronounce dumplings the Japanese way or the Chinese way. I prefer jiaozi as the clearly right way. Nick thinks that, because we're in Japan, we should say gyoza. We sat at the counter, so the chefs heard our debate and began mimicking us, "Gyoza!" "Jiaozi!"

After we got back from Himeji, we went to a yakitori place. "Yaki" food is fried food in Japan, but this wasn't just your regular old fried chicken. Miranda is pictured about to devour some chicken livers (And they were amazing! --Miranda).

Thanks for coming to Japan, Tom. We had so much fun, and I can't wait to get back and see you again!
